Conclusions: We have generated a novel transgenic model enabling temporal and cell-specific control of SDF-1α deletion. As expected, recruitment of progenitor cells to sites of ischemic injury is reduced when cells fail to express SDF-1α and results in impaired wound healing. Knockout of SDF-1α expression from endothelial cells alone however, is not sufficient to elicit a change in phenotype
